About Wish Racing
The Wish Racing program began at EndorFUN's 2009 Timberman triathlon race to help raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. There are over 100 children annually in New Hampshire who qualify for a wish.
The program was a joint creation of Endorfun Sports, Christopher Reap (MAW Executive Board Member) and J.T. O'Donnell (MAW of NH Executive Board Member). During the 2009 races, approximately eighty three athletes signed up to be "Wish Racers". Wish Racers were challenged to raise money for the foundation, and they were successful in raising nearly $50,000. In return for their fundraising efforts, Wish Racers were provided a uniform, swag items and VIP perks on race day. Perhaps most important (as stated by the wish racers themselves) was that Wish Racers were provided exclusive access to a decorated Wish Racer port-a-potty for use on race morning!
Fundraising started at the $100 level, and Wish Racers had the choice to raise additional funds beyond the $100. The top ten wish racers we're provided a premium VIP swag bag and had the opportunity to spend "one-on-one" time at a special meeting with pro-triathlete, Chrissie Wellington. Some of these top ten racers raised over $5000. In addition, Wish Racers had the opportunity to spend time with several Wish Children and families from New Hampshire.
During the races, the Make-A-Wish team staffed both a Wish Racer support tent and an aid station on the course. Wish Racers were treated to their own personal cheering squad during the race. The Wish Racer program was designed to require minimal support from Endorfun Sports on race day and relied heavily on the Make-A-Wish staff and families.
The response from the Wish Racers was indeed overwhelming. Many racers cited the experience as one of the best race experiences of their life and they were eager to immediately sign up for the 2010 Wish Racing program. The theme of the program was "Have the race of two lifetimes". The proceeds from the event helped fulfill approximately seven wishes and the event was extremely inspirational to athletes, the Make-A-Wish staff and the general public. With Endorfun's support, significant awareness was created around the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire mission and opened up a new avenue to raise money for the wish children. As 2009 was the first year of the Wish Racing experience, 2010 delivered an equally successful fundraising with a total of more than $55,000 raised and 8 wishes granted. We hope to continue the track record of success in 2011 - but we need your help!
